Submitting an Article

VIEWS needs you!

The value of VIEWS comes from the article submissions we receive from the experts in the interpreting field, such as you! Your experiences and knowledge can be shared with the more than 12,000 readership of VIEWS just by submitting an article. RID seeks to utilize VIEWS as a forum for interpreters to communicate values, ideas, concerns, challenges and more, but we need your help to make that happen.

Submit an article today to join the ranks of knowledgeable and experienced experts of the interpreting field who have contributed to VIEWS in the past. Access the VIEWS searchable database.

RID VIEWS prints articles on matters of interest and concern to the membership. Submissions that are essentially interpersonal exchanges, editorials or statements of opinion are not appropriate as articles and may remain unpublished, run as a letter to the editor or a position paper.

Upcoming VIEWS topics:

May 2008: Getting Started in the Field (Deadline March 27th)

June 2008: Video Remote Interpreting (Deadline April 28th)

July 2008:  Debut of the new VIEWS Magazine! Articles on all topics accepted. (Deadline May 28th....read more)

If you have any questions about submitting an article, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Your opinions and ideas are welcome and appreciated as RID strives to continue to make VIEWS an invaluable resource for the interpreting profession.

Letters to the Editor Submissions

RID welcomes the feedback from members whether it be about a previously run article, an administrative action or a general comment about the state of the profession today. Through the use of letters to the editor, members can freely express their opinions and voice them with the more than 12,000 readership of VIEWS.

Following are the requirements for submitting a letter to the editor:

  • Letters should be 300 words or less.
  • No more than one letter per writer will be published in a single issue.
  • No more than two letters per writer will be published during a 12-month period.
  • Unsigned letters will not be published, although a name can be withheld on request of the writer as long as the identity of the writer is known to the editor and there is a valid reason.
  • Letters which do not meet these guidelines or which are not appropriate to the purposes of "Letters," may be edited or remain unpublished.

Please note: Due to space limitation in the production of VIEWS, not all letters can be published. We will notify the author if and when his/her letter will be published.

Affiliate Chapters Position Papers

Affiliate chapters have the opportunity to submit position papers to be published in VIEWS. Following are the requirements for submitting a position paper:

  • Position papers should be 800 words or less.
  • RID reserves the right to limit publication from an affiliate chapter to three (3) position papers in a 12-month period.
  • RID recommends and encourages representation of both minority and majority views on topics of interest to the membership.
  • Submissions of position papers from affiliate chapters must indicate whether the positions stated represent endorsement of the affiliate chapter, board of directors and/or the membership at large.
  • Unsigned Position Papers will not be published.
  • Position papers which do not meet these guidelines or which are deemed inappropriate will not be published. Every reasonable editorial effort will be made, through contact with the affiliate chapter, to make a paper publishable.
