Member Center Overview
RID has a growing national membership of more than 16,000 and growing professional interpreters, transliterators, interpreting students and educators. This includes individuals who are Deaf, Deaf-Blind, hard-of-hearing and organizations that promote and support the mission and philosophy of the association. RID also supports a network of 58 affiliate chapters.
RID member interpreters have gained a solid reputation in the interpreting field because of the standards to which they are expected to adhere, following the NAD-RID Code of Professional Conduct as well as the educational component required for maintaining certification.
Members have the opportunity to take advantage of scholarship programs, state and local affiliate chapters and leadership opportunities through RID’s committee structure.
What is Membership?
Membership in RID is more than just benefits and conferences. It is being a part of the only national, professional organization that represents the needs and concerns of interpreters. Through RID’s committee structure, members are offered the opportunity to become involved in addressing the concerns of today as well as helping to shape the growth of the profession as a whole. RID has a variety of committees on everything from Professional Standards and Certification Council to Video Interpreting and Professional Development.
RID – Involved and Informed for You:
As the largest national association representing the interpreting profession, RID is involved in community organizations and federal working groups to ensure the needs of interpreters are addressed on a variety of levels. Among some of the organizations of which RID is a member include the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Alliance (DHHA), the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Alliance – Consumer Action Network (DHHA-CAN), and the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) Consumer Advisory Committee.
Please note: In order to be a voting member of the RID, you must be a Certified or Associate member in good standing, as well as a member of an affiliate chapter.
