- Due to popular demand, Road to Deaf Interpreting (RDI) is proud to introduce “Road to Deaf Interpreting Training Series" in Massachusetts for the second time! This is an interpreter preparation workshop series especially for Deaf people and will provide the same level of training offered to hearing interpreters but will be specifically adjusted to meet the needs of Deaf persons entering the Deaf interpreting field. The program is offered 10 weekends spread out over a year and half. At the end of this program, new interpreters should feel ready to enter the field as mentees and more experienced interpreters should feel more comfortable with their level of training and knowledge to begin doing more and varied kinds of interpreting.
The first training series will be held in the Worcester area on the weekend of March 27/28, 2010 and conclude summer of 2011.
RDI is now accepting applications, go to our new website: http://roadtodeafinterpreting..webs.com
The deadline for this application is February 7th, 2010.
If you have any questions, please contact us at: RoadtoDeafinterpreting@gmail.com

- VTRID had a very productive meeting while enjoying New England's Fall weather and a toasty camp fire (Thanks Elizabeth!). We met at Quechee State Park in Central Vermont. We are gearing up for an active October. The first weekend of October VTRID is hosting a Betty Colonomos Deaf Foundations Workshop that is busting at the seams with eager registrants (thanks to Janet Parker and a number of very active and committed Deaf community members).
- On October 31st we are offering an "Intersection of Ethics and Interpreting" workshop housed at the Alice Peck Day Hospital in Lebanon, NH.
- Our next meeting will be on December 5th in Montpelier, Vermont....another meeting filled with fun and function, as we support Deaf Vermonters Advocacy Services Soup and Silent Auction Fund Raiser and further our AC's goals.
- VTRID will hold it's next meeting on December 5th from 1:30-3:30pm at the Bethany Church in Montpelier.
This meeting dovetails with the Deaf Vermonters Advocacy Service(DVAS). It offers an opportunity for the Deaf and interpreter communities to support each other. The DVAS fundraiser is from 11:30 to 1:30 and for a nominal fee attendees can enjoy delicious home made soups and participate in
an excellent silent auction.
- On December 12th, the University of Vermont will be hosting an oral interpreter training workshop at Gifford Memorial Hospital in Randolph, Vermont.
CEUs will be offered free of charge to VTRID members(.5 CEUs for a 10-4 timeframe with a one hour lunch on your own). Additional participants could still be accommodated. Contact asl@uvm.edu or joanpellerin@hotmail.com
