Become a Test Site
The RID National Testing System currently administers performance testing through a system of supersites. The supersites administer performance testing year-round, as well as the pencil-and-paper written tests twice each year.
Site applications are reviewed by the NAD-RID Certification Council, which approves new sites that fulfill the necessary requirements and also serve areas in need of a testing site.
Hosting a site and administering the tests involves a commitment of time and facilities; however, it is a valuable contribution to your fellow interpreters and can be a very rewarding experience.
For further information and application materials, please contact the director of certification.
What’s involved in becoming a test site?
- Each site should have a site coordinator to serve as the main contact for the site.
Site coordinators:
- Are responsible for maintaining a secure location for the test materials and scheduling testing slots with candidates.
- Schedule Local Test Administrators (LTAs) for the tests.
- Can also serve as LTAs.
- Ensure there are adequate testing facilities and LTAs to offer the tests.
- Sites should be able to offer at least 50 performance testing slots per year. The supersites also offer the written tests on the first Saturdays in June and December.
- For the CI and CT tests, two rooms are needed – a warm-up room and a testing room. The rooms should be large enough to comfortably fit the necessary equipment, the candidate and LTA.
- For the NIC Interview and Performance exam, only one room is required.
- Equipment needed for the exams include:
- a DVD player and remote control
- a VHS player
- 21” or larger TV monitor
- a video camera in VHS, VHS-C, Hi8 or mini-DV format.
