Grants

Providing financial support through research and development grants that will contribute to the growth of the interpreting profession is a crucial aspect of RID’s strategic objectives.

Currently, RID manages two established grant programs:

  1. Research Grant Program
  2. RID-NCIEC Mentoring Grant Program

Research Grant Program

The RID Board of Directors has approved funds to be distributed as supporting research grants for research projects conducted by its members. Depending on the number of applications received, RID may fund a single project or multiple projects.

RID-NCIEC Mentoring Grant Program

  IMPORTANT UPDATE: APRIL 7, 2010
Approximately three years ago, RID and The National Consortium of Interpreter Education Centers (NCIEC) joined forces to promote and sponsor the Mentoring Program in hopes of making it stronger and reach more mentors and mentees.  Both RID and NCIEC contribute financially to the Mentoring Program, which in turn, provides funds to support mentoring programs that meet established criteria.  The NCIEC, which is funded by the federal government on a five year cycle, concludes later this year.  While we anticipate that the program will again be funded, areas of emphasis and focus, approaches by the federal agency as well as centers implementing the program could change. Concurrently, RID is reviewing the Mentoring Program initiative to ensure it is the most effective approach to accomplishing goals set by the organization. Until these areas are settled, we are placing a temporary hold on the program.  Both RID and NCIEC hope to be funding new and innovative programs again in the near future.
